Public House Mural
Continuing on with our theme of WWll and the RAF we went for a meal this evening to The Dambusters pub in Scampton, the village where 617 Squadron was based.
The pub is full of memorabilia about the raid, the squadron, the crew, and mostly Lancaster bombers,
However, imagine my surprise and mild disappointment when I discovered that the pub was only opened in 1999 and that it was never previously a pub and that the air crews never drank here!
The Dambusters crew frequented several pubs during their training and after the raid. Specifically, they were known to drink at the Blue Bell Inn in Tattershall Thorpe.
Not to worry though as my fish and chips was really good.
