Adult Youth Orchestra
I spent some time in the morning weeding and edging another bed.
It rained in the afternoon, and I seem to have achieved nothing.
In the evening, we went to Waterford, where the Adult Youth Orchestra put on an ambitious concert. The members of the Adult Youth Orchestra are previous members of Youth Orchestras. It was put together in 2023. It is huge! There were 5 flutes, 4 oboes, and as you can see, lots of string players.
The first piece was Ravel's orchestration of Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition. Then a trumpet concerto by an Armenian composer, Arutunian. And after the interval, Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony. A creditable performance, though there were a few rocky moments.
Seated in front of us were three rows, so probably some 60 kids, from the orchestra of a primary school in Hong Kong, here on a cultural visit. They were very well behaved, though some of them looked very tired. They apparently have lots more musical activities lined up over the next 10 days.
We drove home in heavy rain, which continued through the night.
