Hover fly

One of the huge ones, that you think is a hornet when you first see them. It was looking very sluggish on our patio, so after taking its photo, I gave it a spoonful of sugary water, which seemed to refresh it a bit.

Shot with flash off to the side, interesting to see how shallow the depth of field is even at f18. A focus stack wasn't feasible as it was shuffling in circles. I do love the compound eyes!

Hopefully it'll survive.
