After the storm

It rained most of the night. There was plenty of thunder and lightening when I went to bed, but the rain carried on most of the night evidently. When I went to take my fluffy friend for his walk, his mum's garden was rather wet and you can see this rose hadn't dried out yet. At the hippodrome the water had flooded quite a large area - which is what it's supposed to do, to protect the town.

We had a leak into the office. French windows work in the opposite way to English ones. English windows open outwards and tend to me mounted towards the front of the wall. French windows open inwards and tend to be mounted towards the inside of the wall. There are advantages to both designs, and some counties use both at the same time.  French windows are more prone to leaking than English ones and one of mine had leaked. Because they can leak, part of the design of a French window included a drain - which allows the leak to flow outwards. In this case the drain was blocked so the water flowed inwards - which isn't so nice in a new window frame that's only two years old... Anyhow the drain has now been cleaned and I'll make a note to clean this one more often...

We have three large water butts at one of the garden (one tonne in total), and during this summer all three have been used and all of them were at least half empty, one more than the others. After the rain all three are now full again and we're diverting the rain away to a soak-away again...
