The walk from Wiesen to Filisur
We went to get some groceries this morning so by the time we set off on our hike it was already late morning, so we decided not to do a long hike. We drove around the mountain, through Davos, to Wiesen station. We set off on our walk from here, crossing the viaduct, and then walking to Filisur where we got the train back to Wiesen again. It was a lovely walk through forests and was therefore quite shady, which helped as it was another hot day. We took a packed lunch which we ate on a bench enjoying the beautiful views of the mountains.
These photos explain our walk - pedestrians and cyclists walk on the narrow path next to the train track on the viaduct - I was very glad not to be walking on the viaduct when the train came over. We waited about 10 minutes after crossing the viaduct for the train to come over, as can be seen here. The bottom left is the view looking down from the viaduct as we were walking across it, it is very high up over the gorge. The bottom right is the train that took us back to Wiesen station again to collect the car.
Today there were many butterflies about - maybe because it was hot but not too hot, not windy and many wild flowers to attract them. In the extra photos you can see some of the butterflies I saw today, starting at the top left and going clockwise are a Marbled White, a Knapweed Fritillary, a Chalk Hill Blue, and a Silver Washed Fritillary. I have downloaded an app to identify butterflies which I used to help confirm these butterfly identifications, so hopefully they are correct. These images were taken with a 24-120mm lens so not the best lens for insect photography, although I find that the macro lens often makes the images look as if they are in a biology textbook as they are too detailed and it shows no context.
Now I must go make supper, a veggie curry for tonight.
