Convolvulus arvensis

Backblip for Friday 18th July 2025

I tried on some white trousers which I wanted to wear to the funeral on Saturday but, having put back on all the weight I lost last year, they barely did up and certainly weren’t comfortable. So on the way to Sainsbury’s for the grocery shop I walked across to the Marks & Spencer branch in the adjacent Stane Park shopping centre. Luckily I found a really good quality pair of cream trousers that were just right, which I bought. Going back across a large piece of ground to the supermarket car park, I noticed these pretty little flowers scattered across the grass, looking a bit like petunias. They are Field Bindweed (Convolvulus arvensis). I’ve never seen bindweed like this before.

I looked around the clothing section upstairs in Sainsbury’s for a nice colourful top, to no avail. Quite frankly the clothes there, which used to be quite good and reasonably priced, are now largely a load of rubbish.

At least I managed to find everything on my shopping list downstairs, so not an entirely fruitless trip around the supermarket.
