Confranc Estacion to Villanúa

After a long day yesterday it was good to have a short hop to Villanúa, and it felt very much like a rest day.
After breakfast I spent a fair bit of the morning exploring Confranc Estacion. The town grew up around its grandiose railway station which took folk from Pau to Zaragoza. I had thought the line was shut, part of it is, but trains still run from Confranc to Jaca. I could have caught one at lunchtime which would have taken me to Villanúa. It also hosts the trail running world championships.
The Camino route today has been all off road. Relatively easy walking along mostly rocky and stoney paths. Not a problem today, however it wouldn’t have been so easy in the rain.
A late coffee stop in Confranc, a small medieval frontier village, in front of the Nuestra Señora de la Asunción church.
For a community of 550 people Villanúa seems very busy. I had no difficulty in finding a place just now to have a decaf café con leche and a couple of delicious fishy raciones, dinner tonight. I’m still full after an extremely late dinner in Confranc Estacion last night.
