A life lived backwards

By GailyWhaley

When I was about 12, there was an old lady up the lane who was like a grandma to me. She would take me to the pictures and buy ice cream. She once gave me 50p which seemed to be a huge amount of money. She also gave me a box made from shells which was a favourite of hers. She gave it to me because she knew I'd look after it and she thought none of her own grandchildren would. She had 8 grandchildren. She treated me with such gentle kindness.

One day she was looking after us in the evening and she took her hair down to brush it. I got the fright of my life. An old woman with long hair!!

I am now that woman. I hope I can make someone feel as special as she made me feel. But not scare the living daylights out of them.

I must also have saved hundreds of pounds in hair cuts. I cut it myself. Badly.
