Egg laying in progress
I’ve not done a butterfly house blip for a little while and when I saw this Leopard Lacewing laying eggs I knew it had to be my blip. I’ve never seen a butterfly laying eggs before - it was fascinating but quite slow too. I’m amazed it came out almost in focus as it was very bright and quite high up. The lacewings lay their eggs on Passiflora plants so we’ll need to keep an eye on how many caterpillars hatch out as we only have so much Passiflora for the caterpillars to eat. I think one of our volunteers has a couple in her greenhouse that we purchased earlier in the season and are holding back, so we could be OK.
I love watching the butterfly life cycle.
