Not quite gone to plan!
An early start for the tunnel and all smooth transit arriving in England at 0915 English time. Around the Dartford crossing we hit traffic which was usual busy traffic merging into 3 of the 4 lanes blocked by an accident. We lost around 3 hours of time. As we got going again our car didn’t and we had to limp it into one of those awful emergency lay-by’s as the M25 is a ‘smart’ motorway.
We scrambled up the banking which is where this photo was taken from. A recovery truck took around an hour to come and rescue us- taking us to the nearest safe place - South Mimms service station. That was around 1400. A ‘mechanic’ came and said we needed relaying home. Recovery people couldn’t find anyone that could relay us so plan b was for the car and caravan to go into storage and us to have a hire car to get home. A taxi came at 1900 to take Mr H to Chingford to pick up the hire car. I am currently waiting for him to return in it! ( currently 20:00).A recovery vehicle is now on its way from Leicester to pick up the car and caravan with an eta of 2130 and then once that has gone we can get on our way in the hire car.
