Seeds in store for 2085

The foxgloves are going over. After the clear felling of the Coombe hillside all those seeds so long dormant came to life in a thousand, thousand purple heads. Although foxgloves will come up again over the next few years they will never be as spectacular nor as many. Other plants will struggle to dominate the space. Saplings will start to shade them out. But their seed from this season will be lying thickly on the earth; tiny black-pepper specks, each a time capsule bearing everything necessary for recreating a foxglove spire again.
So, perhaps in 60 or 70 years time when this plantation has grown its new timber crop and has been clear felled anew, the foxgloves will bust like purple fire from the ground again
