At The Citadelle
We walked to the North West of Lille, through the old town to The Citadelle-which is a five sided brick fortress and is still a working garrison today. It is set in lovely parkland and woodland, and acts as a great habitat for nature. We enjoyed our walk round the estate and had a coffee and a beer on the way back to the city centre. We also spent some time looking around a very good graphic novel/comic shop.
The entrance to the park is marked by this memorial which commemorates the lives of 20,000 pigeon lives lost as they carried messages in the first world war. We found it very interesting.
The extra is me by the biggest plane tree I have ever seen.
Back at the flat now.
