Quite a job
We had been out for lunch and tried to get to Penrith via Clifton . . . road closed.
As we headed back, we noticed work down by the motorway. We stopped, walked over the bridge and watched what was going on. Two local people were very happy to tell us about it.
When Bimbo mentioned the replacement of a railway bridge the other week, I was interested. I had no idea this was going on as it is a part of the motorway we rarely use. Apparently the 137 metre long bridge, which carries the West Coast Main Line Railway over the M6 near Penrith, is being replaced. The current bridge is at the end of its life (see extra). The new bridge is being constructed offsite (the rusty yellow in my blip). In early January next year the old bridge will be dismantled and then the new bridge will be put in place. What a job - could be worth watching this.
