This is the day

Sight for sore eyes ...

Another day of sorting out the aftermath of my debit card scam. This morning I rang my bank’s Fraud Department again as requested, as soon as I could see that the fraudulent transaction had cleared my account and was no longer pending. They then logged it as a fraud and within an hour or two they had reimbursed the money to my account. This was done swiftly because it was their system that had allowed the transaction, even though I had not authorised it or was even aware of it.

Then this afternoon I contacted Action Fraud and gave them the details of the scam, although it won’t actually be logged as a fraud until my bank fills in the paperwork because they were the ones who lost the money, not me.

My sons and daughters-in-law have continued to give us both wonderful support and full reassurance that it could have happened to anyone. The Traveller’s job entails spotting and preventing internet fraud (of a different kind) and he explained how sophisticated the fraudsters have become.

Moral: Always insist on ringing back on the official number when you receive an unexpected call from a bank or other financial institution. Genuine callers will be happy for you to do that, scammers will hang up.
