Welcome to Ger… oh no… not again
I hesitate to write about this, because I want people to choose the train because it is a better way to travel. But still.
When we woke up this morning, our train was standing still. In Denmark. Had been, in fact, standing still since around 2AM because its safety systems refused to collaborate and that means the train is not going anywhere.
After many hours, we finally had a reserve locomotive - and driver - arrive from Sweden to take over. All in all, we ended up with a delay that is… rather impressive, quite frankly. As I’m writing this on the way towards Berlin, the expected arrival time is no less than 8 hours behind schedule and still slipping because we need to stand aside for faster, higher-priority trains.
I won’t take this as an excuse to start flying again; airplanes can go stick their head in a basket or something. But I don’t know if I’ll be able to trust this route to Berlin anymore, and it has been a lifeline in getting me down to the European continent. Some soul-searching is needed before I can address this dilemma.
