Sanctuary
The Ards Man has been spending a lot of time and energy in the garden this week. It has been a place of peace and distraction as earlier this week we had his mum’s funeral. Granny was in the world for 97 years and remembered the times of GIs being stationed around Strangford Lough in preparation for WWII. She also got to meet her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, although latterly she didn’t realise she had a connection to the little bundles of life and energy crowding around her bed.
Both of our daughters came ‘home’ for their granny’s funeral, and that was the silver lining. I don’t think we’ve had both girls home without husbands/children for a decade! And granny got to meet her youngest great-grandchild two weeks ago when the Peanut was over for a ‘babymoon’ before her third child is born. The poignant thing was that this little one-year-old great-grandson was named for the AM’s dad, granny’s husband, but granny didn’t remember any of her family.
So as granny’s spirit passes on, we await a new little member of our family in a couple of months. Life goes on.
