Our pond is there somewhere

Despite the three heatwaves our pond has flourish this year with a dense covering of vegetation which is helping to reduce evaporation during hot weather.

We shall be sad to leave this behind as it has only in the last few years established an equilibrium where what used to be rampant blanket weed is kept in check by the munching of water snails. We didn’t put them there, they arrived somehow and got to work.

A good run this morning for me followed by a catch up with an old colleague from my days at Maidstone Rugby Club. He wanted to thank me for my efforts on behalf of Bearsted when fighting to save the allotments and for being the membership secretary for the Bearsted and Thurnham Society. It was a very thoughtful gesture and I’m hopeful we’ll keep in touch.

It was a miserable afternoon with plenty of rain which prevented any outside jobs so I got on with some delay compensation claims from BA for last April’s flight from San Diego and Avanti West Coast for last Saturday.

You will not be surprised to learn that the letting agent has rejected our claim for recompense for the work we had to do to bring Doreen’s garden back from three years of neglect. We shall fight on.

The rain relented around 5.30 so we nipped out for an excursion around Bearsted and Mote Park. Felt like an autumn day. Good decision to work on Doreen’s garden on Tuesday rather than this afternoon as originally planned.

We completed another set of questions raised by the surveyor about Doreen’s house. The agents think we might be exchanging contracts in the first week in August. I’m counting no chickens
