Grub tracks

I enjoy looking at the patterns on a log made by grubs, once munching away under the tree bark. It appears that many grubs emerged from a central spot and set off munching and growing as they progressed. They don’t cross onto one another’s tracks - they must have a way of sensing where their fellow travellers are.
