Grainger Market
My photo is taken in Grainger Market, a covered-in market in the centre of Newcastle. Built by John Dobson in 1835 as part of the architect Richard Grainger's plan for the redevelopment of Newcastle city centre. It's one of the few market halls in the UK that still fulfils its original purpose.
In my photo there is a fruit shop, a French Bakers and a cheese shop. There are currently over 100 stalls selling anything and everything - meat, fish, coffee, clothes, street food, craft ales, and also Marks and Spencer's Original Penny Bazaar (the very smallest of their stores).
Somehow or other despite changing tastes and fashions, the Grainger Market seems to adapt and is still a popular place in Newcastle for people to shop.
