Root

Today I finally saw a cricketer score a hundred, and it was a lot more than just that. Cricket is full of statistics and records, and today Joe Root moved from fifth to second in the all-time international career scoring list. His 150 was the major performance as England took complete control of the game. He's been the best English player in the 50 years that I've been following the game, and I feel blessed to witness his performance today.

When he comes onto the field at the start of the session he likes to run on and get to the middle first. Since the Indian team hadn't come on first, today he was in splendid isolation!

Otherwise, it was a gloriously sunny day, with the usual atmosphere, good for most of the time but deteriorating towards the end.
