Surprise Discovery!

I was astonished to find purple opium poppies in our garden. To be honest, it was a visiting friend who pointed them out. I had thought they were just another variation of the other poppies we have.

They were most likely brought by birds. No, we will not be cultivating them for medical purposes. (They are the basis for morphine and codeine, among other things.)

The bees love them.
