'Scanners at the Ready'

Volunteering at parkrun today. My role was Funnel Manager, ensuring that participants, after being timed, moved smoothly and swiftly through the finish funnel to receive their finish token and have it scanned along with their personal barcode to get their result. (An additional job is to ensure that the first few hundred meters from the start are clear - today we had over 700 runners and walkers!) 

In the hiatus between the two parts of the job, the scanners were getting ready. Just ten minutes later, it was all go, and the buckets, where participants put their tokens after they had been scanned, were filling up - ready to be put back in order again for next week.
