Not My Best Side

My daughter and SIL stopped in today for coffee en route home from seeing friends east of here. I was showing them my garden improvements out back when my "hawk-eye" SILspied this hawk perched on my neighbour's porch railing on the other side of the fence. My SIL can spy a deer or a bear from (not literally) miles away. My dad was the same. If it weren't for them, I would've missed a lot happening on the shores of Georgian Bay!
That hawk perched there, posing, for ages; Perhaps digesting her lunch? Hmmm..Does a hawk eat rats? One can only hope. While the rats are thriving, the squirrels seem to have disappeared. That has never happened at any time I can remember...but then we didn't always have coyotes roaming the neighbourhood. Hmmm...Do coyotes eat squirrels? What about rats?
Meanwhile, back at the feeders out front, the grackle thugs are still fighting the songbirds off the perches....A few finches and cardinals are still coming, but getting really frustrated. They hang around waiting their turn, but it seldom comes. (extra)
The feeders are all almost empty at the moment and I am trying to convince myself not to fill any of them. Not sure how that is going to work for me.
