Jacob Sheep
We had a wee trip to the Trossachs today, and stopped on the way home at Aberfoyle for a coffee and cake at the Cabin. We saw the demo of sheep rounding up which they do for the tourists at the Wool Centre, and this sheep was exhibited.
The Jacob is a British brand and combines two characteristics unusual in sheep, in that it is piebald, and both sexes have horns, most commonly it has four horns. Breed society was formed in 1969 and a flock book published in 1972.
They are shorn once a year, often in the spring. The fleece is light, soft, springy and open. The colours may be separated or blended after shearing and before spinning to produce various shades of yarn from a single fleece.
