Cariad
Cariad ~ Love
“The bicycle is the most civilized conveyance known to man. Other forms of transport grow daily more nightmarish. Only the bicycle remains pure in heart.”
― Iris Murdoch, (Iris Murdoch, ‘The Red and the Green’)

Roedd rhaid i fi alw' post heddiw 'Cariad' i gwblhau'r drioleg o 'Corinthiaid'.
Gwnaethon ni dysgu mewn dosbarth Cymraeg bod 'Cariad' (y ferf 'Caru') yn defnyddio pan rydych chi'n ofal am rywun. Dydych chi ddim yn gallu dweud 'Rydw i'n caru siopa'. Rhaid i chi ddweud 'Rydw i wrth fy modd â siopa'. 'Wrth fy modd' yn cario ymdeimlad 'delighted', neu 'in my element' neu 'I really enjoy'.. Felly 'Cariad' a 'Love' yn defnyddio yn wahanol yn y ddwy iaith. Faswn i ddim yn synnu os mae'r defnydd 'Cariad' yn Gymraeg yn symud i'r un synnwyr â Saesneg dros amser. Mae'r bobl sy'n siarad Saesneg fel iaith gyntaf yn dod â'u dylanwadu gyda nhw pan dysgu Cymraeg.
Es i i siopa heddiw (rydw i wrth fy modd â siopa). Roeddwn i yn y maes parcio Lidl, sy' o dan y siop, ac yn rhan fwyaf mewn tywyllwch.. Cafodd car ei barcio ar un ochr o'r maes parcio ac roedd ei ffenestr flaen yn adlewyrchu'r heulwen ac yn taflu cysgod ohonof i a fy meic ar y wal. 'Peth prin', roeddwn i'n meddwl. Felly roedd rhaid i fi dynnu ffotograff.

I had to call today's post 'Love' to complete the trilogy of 'Corinthians'.
We learned in Welsh class that 'Love' (the verb 'Caru') is used when you care for someone. You can't say ‘Rydw i'n caru siopa’ for 'I love shopping'. You must say 'Rydw i wrth fy modd â siopa. 'Wrth fy modd' carries the sense of 'delighted', or 'in my element' or 'I really enjoy'.. So 'Cariad' and 'Love' are used differently in the two languages. I wouldn't be surprised if the use of 'Love' in Welsh moves to the same sense as English over time. The people who speak English as a first language bring their influence with them when they learn Welsh.
I went shopping today (I love shopping). I was in the Lidl car park, which is under the shop, and mostly in darkness.. A car was parked on one side of the car park and its front window reflected the sunshine and cast a shadow of me and my bike on the wall. 'A rare thing', I thought. So I had to take a photograph.
