SSD Day 1: Feardar East
The first day of the Scottish Six Days Orienteering Festival and a tough forest underfoot. Both Becky and Tony did well on their respective courses, finishing 6th and 16th. I walked round my course, very glad that I changed from long to short course, but I shall have to see how my knee fares over the rest of today to decide if I will orienteer tomorrow. The worst bit for me was going through the bog myrtle marsh which had hidden depths and rocks which twisted my leg every which way. I was glad for my walking pole and Becky's quick thinking fetching me an ice pack straight after I finished.
On our way back to the carpark I managed to persuade Becky and Tony to point to their names on the welcome board. Great to have Becky with us orienteering this week. She thought that Oxfordshire running would not adequately prepare her for steep, brutal Scottish terrain so she has done well on this first day.
Tick League: Tony 1, Wendy 2
