Pollinator, Pest ... or both

Wasps are very abundant at the moment, demanding our food whatever it is, drinks too, they just don't care as long as they get a sugar hit. Yes they crave sugar. Any food they get is broken down and fed to larvae as they cannot digest it due to their very narrow abdomen. So hence the sugar hit off your ice-cream, apple, banana, and your fruity mojito! And all that swatting them away will only fire up a defence response triggering an alarm call, sending out a message to all other wasps to come and help. Easiest to sacrifice a bit of fruit for them to help themselves. 

But for all their annoying habits wasps are pollinators, helping to pollinate crops, fruit blossom etc just like bees and butterflies. They also consume other pests such as aphids/greenfly, just like ladybirds. 

So before you make for the fly swatter or spray, spare a thought that the pesky wasp has just as much right to exist as all the other insects.
