Torrential
Had a great ride-out today. Started with me going from Gloucester to Coleford (Forest of Dean) to meet up with a few others. I did think there were going to a few more than just four of us though.
Never mind, we set off at 09:30 and headed for the Owls Nest biker cafe in Llandovery, which is in Carmarthenshire, Welsh Wales. See Extra which is the route.
A lot further than our normal ride-outs, almost 100 miles, and almost two hours riding.
The roads, however, were fabulous for riding a motorcycle, twisty and turny but nothing as bad as hairpin bends. Once we got past Monmouth we started seeing those famous Welsh hills, passing close to Brecon. It was good weather for riding, overcast but dry.
On the way home, however again, we had torrential rain. It was so bad that we stopped to get some shelter for a while in Builth Wells, we were returning via a slightly different route to take in the mountains. When it stopped we set off again and, yes you've guessed it, the rain was clearing to the East, exactly the direction we were riding so we caught up with the very heavy rain and it stayed with us for a looooong time.
It did give us a break once we were over the border back in England but by then we were soaked. I didn't put my waterproof liner in my jacket, I was expecting a bit of rain but nothing like we experienced.
My bike jacket, Riders 'fleece jacket', bike trousers, jeans (that were under my bike trousers) and even my motorbike boots were wet inside, it's all in the airing cupboard to dry off. The rain was so determined to get everywhere.
From there we had a good ride as one by one the others dropped off to head for home, Bristol, Lydney and Cinderford. I did the last 18 miles, about 30 minutes, alone as I lived the furthest to the East, in Gloucester.
But, as I commented to the person that organised the trip. "Shame about the torrential rain but at least we were riding, that's the main thing. It's all about the ride",
