Postcard Time

Right then. Buildings, old and new. But actually almost all new. The Songpan Ancient City gate might be partly original but I have my doubts. The skyscrapers are part of the Chengdu skyline snapped on our way to the station, the yellow building our ‘quirky’ Homestay in Songpan, the other gate is on the North side of town and was the limit of our wanders this evening. Outside the Ancient City almost every street is being dug up and in varying stages of disrepair causing complete chaos to drivers and pedestrians alike. Given that most Chinese drive like lunatics it made for a fun time!
There’s a new motorway link and a new bullet train link to Songpan and it’s fair to say that the town is struggling to handle the subsequent huge increase in tourists. It’s a bit weird. However we found a good noodle restaurant for dinner and if we can just work out how to control our room’s superheated toilet seat we’ll be fine.
