Breakfast drama

There was I quietly having a mug of coffee when there was a commotion outside and a female sparrowhawk took a wood pigeon right outside the patio door only about 3m away.  I didn't have my camera to hand but my phone was in my pocket so that had to do.  The sparrowhawk was beginning to pluck the pigeon when she became aware of my presence and attempted to fly off with her catch.  The pigeon proved to be too heavy so she flew off without it and then, to my astonishment, the pigeon also flew off despite having been partly plucked!
