Water

It's the dry season here so not much water outside. Spring Lake is covered with water hyacinths and some kind of algae and doesn't look like water. The creek is blocked by a huge logjam although a small stream is still getting through. The people who live up the mountain have decided they will pay to have it removed, fearing that it might come loose and take out the bridge,  but are baulking at paying thousands of dollars for a permit to pay to do something that is debatably the county's responsibility.

Our little saucers and containers of standing water put out in the garden for the bees and other small creatures have all been emptied because they attract mosquitoes. The birdbath still has water but whatever doesn't evaporate is changed every day. The atmosphere  rather unusually fills with misty water overnight, but burns off fairly quickly. I'd rather wake to sunlight, but appreciate the extra fire protection from the damp mornings and cooler days. The fountain in front of the house still recirculates water but I've already photographed it many times.

So I give you the spray shower in the bathroom. Not terribly novel but I liked the way the light caught the water and the way it contrasts with the tiles.

John has asked me to thank everybody for yesterday's birthday wishes. We had a relaxed day and a fun party in the evening. Bob made brisket and Dan made Pigs in a Blanket, perhaps as a gift of sorts to John who sometimes seems to feel put upon by our rather lax adherence to a Mediterranean diet.  Bob says the brisket recipe, involving onion soup mix and ginger snaps, is an old Jewish family recipe. It was delicious. We gave Bob a tie featuring the Looney Tunes' Wiley Coyote and Roadrunner* which I found whilst rummaging through John's drawers. We thought it was quite fetching with his sartorial choice of a farmer's market tie dye tee shirt. Gail made a beautiful cake with whipped cream and strawberries on top.

As befits people of our advancing age, we were home before dark.
