Harlequin beetle

While I was in Japan M captured this male harlequin beetle in the bug catcher he got for Margot. He kept it fed and breathing but I was glad of the arrival of Tuesday so I could let it go. This is him crawling on the underside of a china bowl on the back verandah. He was difficult to photograph as he barely stayed still so I couldn't let a chance go by.

Edit: Meant to say rhat we've been letting Sika out daily since Sunday for short supervised periods. Today she fell into the frog pond which has so much plant life in it, it doesn't look like water. She got the shock of her life, jumped straight out and wondered what the... We took her inside and dried her off and I think she's recovered.
