A moorhen with its three young chicks

Another canal side walk and a family scene under a cloudy sky and damp, info drizzly, air. I watched the moorhen with its three very young offspring staying close to the edge of the protective reed, with an occasional venture onto the lily pads close by.

The chicks have enormous feet which probably means they can walk across the vegetation with ease from this young age. The parent didn't let them go far as there were bigger birds close by, who might have provided a threat.
