Gail on Guard
I wandered out for toast and tea,
But what I faced was wild to see
My oldest friend, with steely glare,
Two water pistols were prepared!
No warning shot, no time to duck,
Just garden rules and mischief luck.
The terrier watched with seasoned eyes,
He’s seen this stunt it’s no surprise.
“Back away!” said Gail with pride,
“I guard this patio far and wide!”
So I stood still, then made a dash,
Dodging streams in a soggy flash.
Now every time I pour my brew,
I check the corners wouldn’t you?
For friends like Gail, with heart and aim,
Make growing older far less tame.
