St John’s Craft Fair
I visited the Craft Fair at St John’s Church this morning. It’s a massive collection of stalls of crafters’ work set outside but under cover on 3 levels of the Church’s grounds. My niece always has a stall there and I felt the urge to take her, as a welcome, an introductory blueberry bun- not any old blueberry bun but a Söderberg one no less.
The fair opens at 11am every morning for three weeks and when I arrived it was already busy. I liked the colourful baskets being sold at one stall by a friendly man from Ghana. He was happy to be photographed with his baskets made in Ghana from Elephant Grass.
After lunch I met up with daughter#2 who is going to Birsay on Saturday for week of sea watching and some cycling. I gave her instructions for reclaiming a bag I left at my holiday flat in Stromness containing a painting I bought for her upcoming birthday and a few odds and ends that didn’t make my case last Saturday. We were joined by my granddaughter and a friend- quite a little get together in the warmth and sunshine. This seems to be the summer that keeps on giving -famous last words!
