Today's the day ..................... for an infusion

I was visiting a nearby neighbour today, who has quite a large garden with lots of trees.  I was walking up her drive when suddenly the air was full of a wonderful scent, that I knew right away was from a lime tree.  And sure enough it was - a huge and probably ancient tree that was in full flower and humming with the sound of bees and other insects.

According to that well-known font of knowledge - In the Middle Ages, the lime tree was considered sacred and it was common for judicial cases to be heard while the court sat under a lime tree as it was said to inspire fairness and justice. Lime trees were planted by royal decree along many roads to ensure that the harvest of its flowers was plentiful, as it was used a lot for its medicinal properties.

Lime tea or tilleul  is used in infusion still by many people to aid the digestion and for those who find it difficult to go to sleep. It is a traditional herbal remedy in many countries and it is also used in aromatherapy.

All in all, it's a pretty amazing tree ...........................
