The Skye Bridge. And visiting.
View from the Plock at Kyle of Lochalsh. We parked at Kyleakin and walked across from the Isle of Skye. The view all around were lovely. It was warm and calm.
In Kyle we watched a few boats coming and going and I reflected on the long delays of the late 1970s.
The bridge opened in 1995. It’s actually a bridge and a viaduct. Lots of political history and shenanigans surrounded it in early days. Long since been free to cross. Scottish bridges have had no tolls for years. Devolved government decision. The bridge lands on Eileen Ban island, once the home of author Gavin Maxwell, Ring of Bright Water.
We kept an eye open for the wee family passing through on the way to their cottage. We didn’t see them. But we did visit them in the late afternoon and had a meal. Extra photos; their cottage and backdrop and lovely sunset on our way back to Broadford.
