Crab Spider on Daisy: Behind the Mask!
I have a confession to make: I adore those tiny crab spiders that like to hang out on daisies. Call it an affair of the heart, if you will. I look for them every time I go past a stand of daisies, and I have often been rewarded. On this day, I was heading for the top of Tow Hill, walking my bike up the steep part, when I spotted this fellow on a perfect daisy in the morning sun.
Of course, as soon as I came closer, the tiny spider disappeared. It ducked UNDER the petals to hide away from me, but I could still see its little arm waving from beneath the bloom. Cute little critter, why you gotta run and hide from me? WHY?
But I persevered, and the shy little spider came back up top, and I was able to snag a couple of photos, of which this one was my favorite. Doesn't it almost seem to be wearing an itty bitty mask? If I interviewed the spider about this, I suspect it might say: "It's just that they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future!"*
We need a soundtrack song, and here's a good one, from the Fleetwood Mac album Behind the Mask. Here is Stevie on lead, with Affairs of the Heart.
*obligatory Princess Bride ref!
