Google - Control
Epping Forest District Council, which owns North Weald Airfield, has sold fifty-two acres of it to Google for 88.2 million pounds. It's a site they might use for a new data centre. I believe the area sold includes the control tower built in 1952 in the Cold War. This will be retained.
The Council has spent 5.7 million pounds on a new control tower and fire station which I've watched taking shape and looks like it is nearly finished.
Whatever happens at the airfield, at least the future of aviation there seems secure.
