A walk on Southend Pier
This is a back blip from yesterday's visit to Southend-on-Sea, and this is a view of Southend Pier, the longest pleasure pier in the world. It is one and a third miles long and it took us an hour to get to the end of the straight section (there's an extension at the end), and more or less the same time to walk back. My first ever visit to Southend and I loved it.
The pier was built in sections starting in 1829. The current iron pier was completed in 1889, with the railway track in working order in 1890/91.
