Perfect passion

At one point it looked like I might not make it to Newcastle to visit Mummy hazelh at her care home today. Just 30 minutes into our journey south, our train was marooned in Dunbar while engineers checked a 'bridge strike' a little further down the line. In the end we were delayed for an hour, and now everyone can claim back the cost of their rail tickets. I wonder whether LNER will be able to claim compensation for all these refunds from the driver who attempted to squeeze a flat bed lorry carrying a stack of five empty skips under a low bridge?

I feared that I'd be late home this evening when I saw that my return train would be half an hour late into Newcastle. I used this information - plus mention of the disruption to my outward trip this morning - to persuade  the train manager on an earlier service to let me board his 17:01 train.

Today at the care home I joined Mummy hazelh for lunch in the dining room (sausages, mashed potatoes, broccoli and cabbage followed by ice cream), then watched television with her in her room while I tidied her belongings and answered her repeated questions about her location and the reason for her being there. We had the excitement of a visitor from the council mid-afternoon. Jo came to see my mother in respect of deprivation of liberty, as per the Mental Capacity Act 2005. She observed my mother's steep mental decline since her last visit six months ago.

I photographed this passion flower on my walk home from Waverley station this evening.

Exercise today: walking (10,027 steps).
