Listen to the Music/Bench #4

In Aberdeen today and captured another Clan Cancer Book Bench outside Union Square Mall.  Hannah Lewin from Wakefield is the artist who designed this one.  She is a book illustrator and graphic designer.

This bench celebrates the music of the 80s, an era which also saw the introduction of the Sony Walkman, which transformed the music experience.  The Walkman gave people to listen to music while on the move.  As well as being portable it also gave you the joy of enjoying music in ‘private’.  Given that Mrs CBL have quite different tastes in music it meant we didn’t have to listen to music which wasn’t pleasing to our ears.

As for the music of the 80s, it was, in the main, an era that more or less passed me by.  I just couldn’t move on from the music of the 60s and 70s.  Madonna, Prince, Joy Division, New Order, The Smiths, The Police, Depeche Mode, Duran Duran, UB40 and many more never featured on the playlists of cassettes I recorded/created.

Nowadays my tastes have changed and become more eclectic.  There are so many different genres I enjoy and while some will never be to my liking, Hip-Hop and Rap being two of them, there are many more that give me great pleasure.

All of us need music in our lives and our soundtracks will doubtless vary considerably.  The only thing that matters is that they bring joy into your lives!

The ‘B-side’ of the bench is in the extras ;-)
