Empty Space

Two hours ago, this space was absolutely rammed full of Lily of the Valley and other assorted weeds and grasses. I wouldn’t mind so much, but it’s not even our Lily of the Valley! Next door had loads of it but, several years ago, put down membrane and stone chippings to make for a lower maintenance front garden. However, the plant had other ideas, burrowing under the wall and reappearing in our garden.
We thought we’d eradicated it during lockdown, but it keeps creeping back and I’m afraid this corner of the flowerbed has been neglected this year, allowing the Lily to become established there.
Not any more though. We’ve dug up as much as we can, but some of the roots were entwined around those of other plants. So it’s going to be a case now of keeping a close eye on the area and nipping any new growth - literally - in the bud.
