Gnarled

I came across this tree in the grounds of the old folks home where my wife volunteers. She had roped me in to attend a beer-themed event this afternoon. Unsurprisingly perhaps, it was somewhat underwhelming but my bottle of Hobgoblin was nice. This tree is in the grounds of the care home and I thought 'gnarled' was the appropriate description,  especially when l checked the meaning - 'knobbly, rough and twisted, especially with age'. Old trees have such character and so many stories to tell if only we could hear them. Sadly they are too often undervalued and indiscriminately cut down.
