March For Humanity

I spent the first hour of today’s protest standing behind a little girl on her father’s shoulders holding a handmade sign that read Stop Starving Gaza. We finally set off for the bridge when the head of the march had already reached the end. 100,000 people, according to the organisers, on a rainy day. Many of them families.

Halfway across, the police helicopter above started talking to us: ‘This is the police helicopter… consultation with organisers… public safety… please turn back and head towards the city’. Then the same message in a text notification.

The numbers were higher than anticipated, the fear a crowd crush at the end. People turned back.

Point made, I hope.
