TIME TRAVEL
Went over to Morecambe this morning but to celeebrate Mum's 94th birthday, a day early - which we are now thankful for as it will avoid us having to travel in Storm Floris tomorrow.
We left just after 10 this morning and it was grey and drizzly, but the weather was forecast to be like that - however by the time we got to Mum's it had gone and as we went into The Midland the sun was shining, a very breezy by lovely afternoon.
We had a pleasant meal, it's a shame that the scaffolding is still up, marring a little the view from the glass fronted room but not too much.
It was very busy and the service just a little slow, considering how busy they were that was no problem. The staff were great, very friendly, obliging and helpful.
My sister's boyfriend got a cake for Mum with sparkler type candles and the staff we so lovely about that - 3 of them got together, brought the cake round and sang Happy Birthday to her, after finding out what her first name was.
The Midland isn't the same as it used to be, it's now part of a group called The Inn Collection have a number of places throughout the UK, including several in the Lake District, two of them being The Waters Edge at Ambleside and The Pheasant Inn in Bassenthwaite plus several others.
Whilst there we noticed these three people, they looked stunning. I spoke to them and they from a 1940s Revival Weekend taking place at The Village Hall in the original small village called Poulton that was before Morecambe came into being.
I asked if I could take a photo and they were very obliging and were delighted that I asked. They stood on the Art Deco stairs in the Foyer and posed for me beautifully. I did the best I could with the lighting and this isn't too bad a photo. They asked me to take one of them with their phone so I did that for them and hope they like it!!
I popped out and went for a walk along the jetty and onto the beach.
We then said our goodbyes and we came home.
Mum really enjoyed herself, which is what it was all about anyway so that was great. A very lovely trip.
That's all from me for today - do take care and stay safe and I will see you all tomorrow.
