Fun Day!

We got up at a decent time and cooked breakfast with the most excellent bacon!

Back in the day, before I moved to Oregon, I kayaked quite a lot in the harbor near Gloucester, MA where I lived. I had to leave my kayak in Massachusetts when I moved, and had every intention of taking it back up when I moved here. Alas, a bad hiking accident led to rotator cuff surgeries, followed by two knee replacements, etc, etc. Then I began to think that I’d never get in a kayak again.

Dick kayaks quite a bit, and even fishes from his kayak. He suggested that we give it a try. I couldn’t bend my knees enough to get into his kayak, but he called the local kayak rental place and they suggested a sit-upon kayak, where there is no well to sit in. It actually worked perfectly and we went on a fairly short adventure on the estuary. My shoulders will need to be stronger for further adventures so that is a great goal!

It was a huge accomplishment for me, conquering the worry of getting back in the kayak. I’m so grateful to him for his patience and kindness.

Unfortunately I don’t have a photo of yours truly in the kayak, but we followed with a picnic overlooking the estuary in Gearhart. What a day!
