Havila Cruise - Bergen
We've had a super day! Sunshine, great food, adventure... We had a great breakfast, and got seats outside in the sunshine. We were actually in a cheaper room last night without a view, but that didn't matter as there was no view in the rain. And we were asleep by 8pm, having been up at 4.30 am.
As we sat outside this morning looking back over to the Bryggen, a woman at an inside table hung out of the window and asked with some urgency if I had a camera. I handed her my phone, thinking she had seen something terribly exciting inside, perhaps a crime being committed and she wanted evidence. But she just wanted to take a photo of US... How very sweet of her.
The taxi arrived at the appointed time (just as JR arrived back from her wander round the shops...)
'The airport?' says he...
'NO! The Havila Capella!' we replied in unison.
And so he set off and took us all the through town to the Scenic Eclipse!!! WRONG SHIP? The Havila was leaving from around the OTHER SIDE of the harbour. So, back through the busy town we went... I'm sorry, but a taxi booked months ago should maybe have double checked where they were going...
We'd splashed out on a suite. And boy, is that proving to be a good move - priority boarding, welcome champagne and nibbles, and in for dinner while the others queued. The ship is the alternative to the Hurtigruten, same passenger/post/freight ferry, but more modern, more comfortable, more eco friendly and much more special.
Luckily, I managed to borrow an adapter for my phone. Somehow, I thought everywhere would cater for British plugs. (Where did I get that idea?) JR can use a USB, which IS everywhere. But the shop had no adapters!! The nice assistant leant me one!! Otherwise my phone would have been useless until I could (possibly) buy one in the next big town up the coast.
We've got HUGE windows looking out over the bow of the ship! This is very special.
