Walter and Spike

I didn't take this picture today. In fact, I didn't take it at all. But Tim sent it to me today. If you look carefully you can see that Walter is holding a ball and the two of them have figured out how to push the ball back and forth to each other with their noses. Pretty clever of Walter to figure out that that's what Spike always does and he can do it back!  Another advantage of a round ball that rolls and not a Kong...We still had to do a fair amount of fetching the ball from underneath the furniture.

John had an early (8:30) appointment today at the dermatologist and he was asking me at 7am to look at his leg and tell him whether I thought there was anything there to be removed. I guess he was hoping I would give him a reprieve, but I told him that I couldn't see much either but that I was sure they knew what they were doing and that it was a little late to be having that conversation. 'I'm going to ask him (the doctor) if I have to do it' he was muttering darkly as he left the house. I suggested that it might be more to the point to ask him why he was having to do a MOHS procedure on something on his leg when neither one of us could even see it....

While he was gone I took Spike for a walk before it got too hot and met a neighbor with her Jack Russell. We introduced ourselves and she told me that she was the one who had called the county and asked. them to repair the crumbling asphalt at the bottom of our driveway. Two days later, mirable dictu, they did! I told her we were putting her in charge of getting the street repaved! She seemed amenable. We also talked about organizing  a block party, something I've talked with several neighbors about. The sentiment is there, but I think Joan might actually pull it off. We exchanged contact information and we'll be in touch.
It pays to walk the dog on our street sometimes. It's a good way to meet the neighbors....

John came home soon after that bearing a  baggie full of Band-Aids for his wound which they didn't stitch because it's on his shin. That's progress of sorts. In all the times we've been through this I don't think they have ever given out any dressings other than the one covering the wound and a little packet of petroleum jelly....

A day that got off to a early start is now slowly winding down without having accomplished much. The heat is making us both indolent....
