Westerbork Shanty Festival

After breakfast we left Vorden and drove north to Lemelerveld. We walked a few miles in the woods and over the heather and enjoyed a coffee.
We then plotted a route towards Orvelte, a small historical village in Drenthe.
When we arrived the first thing we saw were signs directing us to parking P1, P2 and P3 and several stressed and very busy walkie talkie talking traffic controllers.
Too crowded here! So, we drove a few miles back to Westerbork. Arriving there we ended up in the middle of a Festival, a festival of shanty choirs to be exact. That we could handle, and not much later we found a place on the terrace of restaurant Westerburcht for a nice lunch.

Around 15:30 we arrived at home in Delfzijl.

In the photo are the Sjompiesingers from Gramsbergen in full action.
The Sjompiesingers had quite a lot of technical stuff around them, a huge sound mixing console, immense speakers and monitors facing the choir.
If I hadn’t known better I would have expected Coldplay to make an appearance.
